It's not a huge deal in the big scheme of things, but it looks like I won't be doing the Myrtle Beach Mini-Marathon after all. I've been diagnosed with a small hernia and am scheduled to have it repaired surgically as an outpatient procedure on Friday, September 6th. That means no running at all for the few weeks right after the surgery, which would have been the key training time for the October 20th race. The doctor said that he was comfortable and would understand if I chose to wait until after the race to have it repaired, but Jen and I agreed that it would be best to go ahead with getting it taken care of. There's another half marathon on December 14th that's actually a little closer to me and it's very likely that I'll be running in that one instead.
I will be able to do some cardio work--mainly walking and light work on the exercise bike at the gym--during the month of September, so I don't expect to lose a ton in the way of fitness. And I'm hoping that being less active during that time will motivate me to be even more focused on clean eating. It does look like the strength training will be pretty much shelved until October. I'd appreciate your prayers for a safe surgery and speedy recovery. Thanks in advance!
